NEWS MEDIA ADVISORY

(Kansas City, Kan., Dec. 14, 2011) – EPA Regional Administrator Karl Brooks will host a news conference on Thursday, Dec. 15, in Omaha, Neb., to discuss a recent milestone in the Agency’s continuing efforts to clean up toxic lead from residential yards and properties in the city.

The news conference will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Jesse Lowe Conference Room on the Third Floor of the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, Nebraska State Sen. Brenda J. Council and Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour are also scheduled to attend the event.

Since 1999, EPA and its contractors have been working cooperatively with local officials, agencies, institutions, community organizations, residents and property owners to sample and remediate lead-contaminated soils from Omaha’s residential yards, schools, day care facilities, parks and playgrounds. Addressed under EPA’s Superfund program, the Omaha Lead Site, consisting of approximately 27 square miles of eastern Omaha, has been on the National Priorities List since 2003.

WHAT: News conference to discuss milestone in Omaha Lead Site cleanup

WHEN: 11 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011

WHERE: Jesse Lowe Conference Room, Third Floor of Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, Omaha, Neb. 68183

WHO: EPA Regional Administrator Karl Brooks, Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, Nebraska State Sen. Brenda Council and Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour

In 1998, the Omaha City Council solicited assistance from EPA in addressing problems with lead contamination in area soils, prompted by cleanup activities at the former ASARCO lead processing facility along the west bank of the Missouri River in Omaha.

From the early 1870s until it closed in 1997, the ASARCO plant emitted lead and other heavy metals into the atmosphere from smoke stacks and fugitive emissions. Those pollutants were carried by wind and deposited on the ground across eastern Omaha for more than a century. Over time, soils around many residences have also been contaminated with lead from the flaking and deterioration of lead-based exterior paints.

Lead in surface soils poses a serious health risk to children six years of age and younger, and to pregnant women. Lead poisoning can result in learning and behavioral problems, hearing problems, diminished IQ, and kidney damage. EPA also classifies lead as a possible cancer-causing agent.

Process Capital News

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Nov. 23, 2011) -

NOT FOR U.S. DISTRIBUTION

Process Capital Corporation (TSX VENTURE:POR) (the “Company” or “Process Capital”) announces that it has received information that Seaquest Capital Corporation and Seaquest Corporation (the “Seaquest Companies”) will have been deemed to have made an Assignment in Bankruptcy pursuant to the provisions of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Canada) (the “BIA”) as of November 24, 2011. The Seaquest Companies each filed a Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal under the BIA on October 24, 2011. On November 3, 2011, BDO Canada Ltd. was appointed Interim Receiver of the Seaquest Companies pursuant to an order of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

It is the understanding of Process Capital that BDO Canada Ltd. will be the Trustee of the Seaquest Companies.

Process Capital has been advised that the Seaquest Companies are the Beneficial Owners of approximately 55% of the shares of Enviromatrix Technologies Inc. (“Enviromatrix”). Enviromatrix, to the best of the current knowledge of Process Capital, is the Beneficial Owner of approximately 51.4% of the issued and outstanding shares of Process Capital.

Enviromatrix has been providing Process Capital with interim funding as unsecured, non-interest bearing shareholder advances to finance its day to day operations and engineering costs associated with its waste oil refinery project. According to the records of Process Capital, to date approximately $ 3,770,000.00 has been advanced by Enviromatrix to Process Capital to finance these costs.

As a result of the bankruptcy of the Seaquest Companies, Process Capital does not anticipate that Enviromatrix will be able to continue to finance these on-going costs, and Process Capital is in the process of seeking alternative financing, however to date, there have been no firm commitments received by the Company for financing. The failure of the Company to obtain alternative financing may have serious consequences for the Company, including the inability of the Company to finance its day to day operations, and any further advancement of the Company’s waste oil refinery project.

It is the understanding of Process Capital that at least one party has approached BDO Canada Ltd. and made a proposal to acquire the interests of the Seaquest Companies in Enviromatrix, however Process Capital is unaware as to whether that proposal will be accepted.

The Company will continue to monitor this situation, and will provide updates to this Press Release when further information is available.

U.S. Sunlight Corporation and Eco Attic Were Recently Featured on News…

Incline Village, Nevada (PRWEB) October 25, 2011

News 10 in Sacramento, California – Many homeowners suffer from unnecessarily high utility bills, uncomfortable temperatures in the summer, musty smells on objects stored in the attic and condensation on windows and doors during the winter. According to Allan from U.S. Sunlight and Cliff from Eco Attic, these problems can be resolved by simply addressing the home’s attic space. Alan Breidenbach puts it bluntly, “If you don’t ventilate, it can cause mold, mildew and potentially health problems.” He is referring to the need for year-round attic ventilation.

The benefits of active attic ventilation are commonly linked to summer months. The Florida Solar Energy Center has analyzed 21 houses and determined 43% of air conditioning design load is based on elevated attic temperatures which frequently reach 160˚F. For this reason, many homeowners quickly look to lower attic temperatures in order to alleviate air conditioning usage.

Despite popular belief, a well ventilated attic is just as important during the winter months. Most homeowners believe a hot attic in the winter months provides a heat barrier to keep the rest of the home warm. Unfortunately, a warm attic does little more in the winter months than to create the perfect environment for mold and mildew. As the warm attic air reaches the cold underside of the house roof, it creates condensation. In fact, according to the Energy Performance of Buildings Group at the Lawrence Berkeley Center, throughout the course of the winter months, a typical attic absorbs up to 220 pounds of moisture. In the spring, the building materials in the attic release the moisture back into the attic, equivalent to almost 30 gallons of water. Moisture in the attic causes these following homeowner nightmares:

  •     Mold and mildew growth
  •     Condensation and humidity saturates insulation, causing the insulation to lose its effectiveness
  •     Melted snow re-freezing on the eaves, causing back-up of water under the shingles; also known as ice damming
  •     Sheetrock pops and truss uplifts, causing damage and cracks to drywall in the house

For the well-being and balance of a home, it is imperative to have a well-ventilated attic, as well as proper insulation and quality windows and doors. With all of these pieces addressed, a homeowner will rapidly see lower energy costs and a longer lifespan of building materials.

Best of Show

U.S. Sunlight Corp strives to provide “Alternative Energy for Everyday Life,” by designing and manufacturing innovative solar and green products to save money for the homeowner. Introduced in January of 2011, the Solar Controller has taken the home improvement industry by storm, receiving laudable praise from homeowners and industry experts alike. Homeowners now have the ability to add these additional benefits to their U.S. Sunlight attic ventilation products:

  •     An option to utilize house electricity along with solar power, enabling the attic fan to run after sunset or when solar power is not available.
  •     Monitoring attic fan’s operating status, attic temperature and attic humidity from the Solar Controller remote’s LED screen, simply by pressing a single button on the remote.

With over 100,000 products in the 2011 National Hardware Show, our Solar Attic Fan and Solar Controller caught the attention of retailers, media, and trade professionals, and won one of the Best of Show awards.

AXcess News: Gryphon Gold Becomes First Junior Gold Producer in Nevada This Year

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – Oct 17, 2011) – Gryphon Gold Corp. (OTCBB: GYPH) became the first junior gold producer in Nevada in 2011 after having shipped carbon columns loaded with silver and gold from its Borealis Mine in Mineral County. Gryphon’s President John Key called the shipment a “milestone event” for the company.

According to sources in the company, Gryphon Gold will be shipping carbon columns bi-weekly from here on out and could report gold production figures sometime in the second half of November.

The company’s shares set a new 52-week high in early morning trading on the Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board market Monday, reaching a high of $ 0.32.

GYPH completed a secondary offering in May, having raised $ 10 million through an underwriting led by Roth Capital in the U.S. with Acumen Capital of Alberta managing the Canadian sale of common stock. In all, the two underwriters brought in enough buying to take down $ 1 million of the underwriters over allotment. Proceeds from the offering allowed Gryphon Gold to build out its leach pad operation and with the help of an additional $ 3 million in debt, also placed by the underwriters, the company had the capital to build the ADR plant. The plant will permit the processing of carbon into bullion on-site, saving as much as 5% in costs. The company expects the plant to be in operation sometime during the beginning of the new year.

Gryphon Gold is forecasting an annual production rate of approximately 48,000 ounces of gold once in full production at a cost basis near $ 400 per ounce this year. Based on current prices, that would put the company’s pre-tax earnings somewhere in the $ 60 million range. For shareholders, Monday’s announcement on shipping carbon columns may be a ‘milestone event,’ as Key stated, though production figures to come later this fall could substantiate Gryphon Gold’s forecast.

Dominion Unveils Aggressive Capital Spending Program, an Industrial Info News Alert

SOURCE: Industrial Info Resources

SUGAR LAND, TX–(Marketwire – Oct 14, 2011) – Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) — Dominion Resources Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) is planning capital projects totaling at least $ 13.4 billion for its regulated electric and gas utility operations by 2016. The company also plans to retrofit and retire merchant generators it owns in Massachusetts and Illinois. Compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Washington, D.C.) air quality regulations is one of the drivers behind the company’s planned capital outlays for electric generation. But projected strong growth in customer demand over the next 15 years is another factor behind Dominion’s planned capital spending for electric generation, transmission and distribution, as well as its gas-distribution and liquefied natural gas (LNG) business.

Carbon tax bill is good news for Australia

Thanks to a narrow victory for the government, Australia now looks likely to join the EU and New Zealand in introducing a comprehensive policy to make carbon polluters pay for the damage they cause. This is very good news. It has been an uphill battle, with the opposition and business lobby all but claiming that the sky would fall in should the bill be passed.

But once the dust settles and the lamenting subsides, the majority of people of Australia are likely to find that the bill passed on Wednesday benefits them. Much of the money raised from the carbon price of £15 per tonne of emissions will be recycled in the form of tax breaks and compensatory payments.

It will also be used to stimulate investment in new clean energy technologies leading to new jobs and increased inward investment. Hopefully over time this will boost Labour and the Greens’ popularity, so ensuring that the policy is protected – despite opposition leader Tony Abbott’s “blood promise” to repeal the legislation.

Australia’s energy system is among the most polluting in the world thanks to its heavy reliance on coal, but Australia’s climate is vulnerable to the impact that climate change brings. Acting to reduce emissions is in the country’s self-interest in the longer term, especially if it can act as an inspiration for other countries to follow.

South Korea and China are looking to introduce emissions-trading schemes and all eyes in the global carbon market are now firmly looking eastwards. There could be significant advantages for Australia’s financial institutions in being amongst the first to participate in this market, just as London has benefited from being the hub of the European carbon market.

The carbon price is fixed for three years, unlike in the European system where prices have reached rock bottom thanks to an oversupply of pollution permits. This has interesting implications for the EU, which has long basked in the glory of being able to claim that it is leading the world on climate change. If the bill passes into law, Australia will be able to fairly claim that it has now taken the lead.

Being out in front has its advantages and confers a moral superiority but there will always be forces of conservatism who will be made to feel uncomfortable. It is therefore more important than ever that countries in the early adopters group work together to defend their actions and encourage more into the fold.

No one, in Europe or Australia, can now claim to be going it alone, and with luck soon many more will step up and join the race to the top. As Australia has shown this will not be easy, but we must defy those who would rather participate in a race to the bottom where ultimately everyone is a loser.

Lady Worthington is a Labour peer and an architect of the UK’s Climate Change Act
