Driveline will also provide preventive maintenance, emergency repair and
advertising film application to deployed and active units.

“We expect this program to ramp up quickly,” said Randy Wilson, chief
executive officer at Driveline. “Our national network of field managers
and employees, combined with our exclusive project management tools,
makes Driveline uniquely qualified to deploy the support SunClean
requires.”

The solar-powered, cordless design of SunClean 150 Compactors allows
them to operate virtually anywhere, eliminating the costly
trenching/wiring required for conventional compactors. In addition, the
new compactors provide sensing and real-time reporting of the amount of
trash in each unit. With this intelligence, operators are better able to
deploy collection resources, addressing hot spots before they become
problem areas and avoiding wasted time on unnecessary trips.

“SunClean, LLC has tremendous confidence that the Driveline-SunClean
partnership is perfectly aligned to deliver an innovative,
environmentally focused product to locations around the country,” said
Franklin Cruz, SunClean’s founder and chairman, and Janis Jason,
president and COO.

Driveline will install SunClean 150 Compactors in virtually every retail
channel format, including gas/convenience, grocery, drug, mass and
specialty, as well as hospitals, schools, business improvement districts
and public venues. The company currently anticipates rotating
advertising films – including swappable messaging panels and
factory-made wraps – multiple times each year, in addition to the
contracted maintenance activities.

“This is a unique opportunity for the Driveline team,” Wilson said. “Our
agreement with SunClean will expand our field labor activities into new
channels beyond our traditional retail offering, while also giving the
company the opportunity to support an innovative organization that is
focused on bringing new value and technology to the market.”

Woodland Joint Unified School District and SolarCity Announce Installation of 3,900 Solar Panels on Four District Schools

WOODLAND, Calif.–()–Woodland Joint Unified School District, a model of energy efficiency,
and SolarCity®,
a national leader in clean energy services, today announced an ambitious
plan to install more than 3,900 solar panels at four district schools.
The district incurred no upfront costs for the project and is expected
to save more than $ 70,000 in the systems’ first year of operation, and
more than $ 910,000 over their lifetime.

“It’s not often that we encounter a customer with as much experience
tackling energy consumption as Woodland Unified School District”

Photovoltaic arrays totaling 924 kilowatts will be installed at Freeman,
Plainfield and Zamora Elementary Schools, and also at Pioneer High
School. The systems will allow the district to pay less for solar
electricity over the course of its 20-year Power Purchase Agreement
(PPA) than it currently pays for utility power. SolarCity will provide
free installation, maintenance and ongoing monitoring of the systems.

The district has decreased its energy consumption by more than 30
percent over the past four years, qualifying as a U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency Energy Star Leader Top Performer. The new solar arrays
will deliver substantial additional environmental benefits to the
region, eliminating over 49 million pounds of annual carbon dioxide
emissions, which is the equivalent of planting more than 26,000 trees or
taking more than 4,200 cars off the roads each year.

“Woodland Joint Unified School District views energy efficiency as a top
priority with environmental, economic and ultimately educational
benefits,” said Rob Hutchinson, District Energy Education Specialist.
“Going solar is another giant step forward in decreasing our energy
consumption, which maximizes the funds available for educational
programs and support services.”

The solar installations will also provide students with firsthand
demonstrations of how solar technology works, and of solar energy’s
benefits. Students will have access to SolarCity’s web-based monitoring,
PowerGuide®, which allows customers to track in real-time how much power
their solar systems are generating and how much electricity their
schools are using.

“It’s not often that we encounter a customer with as much experience
tackling energy consumption as Woodland Unified School District,” said
SolarCity Project Development Manager Anastasia Beckett. “They’ve been a
leader in the movement to protect the planet for future generations and
preserve precious budget dollars.”

SolarCity has completed or undertaken more than 200 solar projects for

Solar Panel Installation Company, Spirit Solar, Offers Investment Returns Of 10% On Solar PV

In light of the recent upheavals to the solar power industry following the government’s attempt to reduce the Feed-in Tariff (the amount paid to homeowners for every kilowatt of power they generate from their domestic solar panel system), there has been a lot of confusion amongst potential investors and solar companies alike. Spirit Solar, a leading solar installation company, is offering returns of 10% for systems installed before 31st March 2012 – with potential returns of up to 18%.

Following the legal dispute against the government regarding the cuts and the public debate between the Prime Minister and Spirit Solar’s own MD, Erica Robb, the DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change) has announced that,

“The tariff rate for PV installations less than or equal to 4kW will not fall below 21p for installations with an eligibility date between 12th December 2011 and 31st March 2012.”

Using this information, Spirit Solar has calculated that solar systems receiving these rates have the potential to earn 10% returns on investment. Following the news on 25th January 2012 that the government lost their appeal against the court decision which ruled that the tariff cuts were unlawful, hopes are now high that the tariff will revert back to the original rate of 43.3p per kWh.

A statement released by Renewable Energy Assurance Limited (REAL) announced,

“There is still uncertainty about FIT rates paid on installations fitted and registered between 12 December and 2 March as it is not yet clear whether the Government will be allowed to appeal. However, for <4kw systems the minimum tariff that consumers installing in this period will receive is 21p. If the Government's appeal is unsuccessful, or should they decide to withdraw it, consumers will receive 43.3p.”

Spirit Solar has worked out that if the tariff does revert to 43.3p per kWh until 3rd March 2012, installing solar panels before this cut off date could earn investors a return of up to 18%:

“If the government does lose [the appeal], then in order to cut the rate from 43.3p, they will have to put fresh proposals before Parliament, which will take 40 days.

Therefore any installation made between December 12th 2011 and the end of this new 40 day period will attract the original higher rates. So anything under 4kWp (i.e. a standard domestic install) will attract a subsidy of 43.3p for 25 years!

So anyone installing between December 12th and the end of the 40 day period gets the double bonanza of the cost savings from drops in technology costs coupled with the higher tariff! This gives a return of 18%. Tax free and inflation linked.”

After 31st March 2012

The government are continuing to make it more difficult to be eligible for the Feed-in Tariff. In addition to the government’s attempts to decrease the tariff to 21p per kWh, from 1st April 2012 all homes will need to have an energy rating (EPC) of C or higher in order to qualify for the tariff.

To anyone whose house is below this rating or who is unsure what their rating is, Spirit Solar recommend installing prior to the end of March before the more stringent criteria are introduced. To allow sufficient time for the installation process before 31st March, the company advises that solar systems should be booked by 14th February 2012.

Midwest Generation Completes Installation of Additional Pollution Controls

CHICAGO–()–Midwest Generation said today that its fleet of Illinois power plants is
well-positioned to comply with two sets of new environmental regulations
developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) — the
Hazardous Air Pollutants rule, which was released yesterday and will
take effect in 2015, and the Cross State Air Pollution Rule, which is
scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2012.

Midwest Generation was established in Illinois upon acquiring six
coal-fired power plants in the state in 1999. It is a subsidiary of
Edison Mission Group (EMG), which manages the competitive power
generation business of Edison International (NYSE: EIX).

The company has invested continuously in additional pollution controls
at its plants. Over the past several weeks, it has completed the
installation of Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction systems to reduce
emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), which can contribute to the
formation of smog. These new controls will enable Midwest Generation to
comply with both State of Illinois and USEPA limits for NOx which are
scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2012.

As a result of this work, Midwest Generation will have reduced NOx
emissions by 80 percent since 1999.

The company also has reduced emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which
can contribute to acid rain, by nearly 40 percent since 1999, and is set
to meet new USEPA limits on those emissions that are scheduled to take
effect in January of 2012.

Both state and federal regulations will require additional SO2 emission
reductions over the next several years. As previously announced, the
company will make case-by-case decisions on whether to meet those limits
by making additional retrofits or by retiring certain power generating
units.

Midwest Generation also has been among the industry’s leaders in
developing and installing mercury emission controls at its plants dating
back to 2008-09. Nearly all of the company’s generating units are now
reducing mercury emissions by more than 90 percent and already comply
with the USEPA’s first-ever regulation of mercury emissions from power
plants which take effect in three years.

Midwest Generation operates the Fisk and Crawford stations in Chicago,
Waukegan Station, Joliet Station, Will County Station in Romeoville, and
Powerton Station in Pekin. The company has approximately 1,100
employees, about 70 percent of whom are represented by the International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Midwest Generation is a subsidiary of Edison Mission Group (EMG) of
Santa Ana, Calif., which manages the competitive power generation
businesses of Edison International (NYSE: EIX). Based in Rosemead,
Calif., Edison International is a generator and distributor of electric
power and an investor in infrastructure and energy assets, including
renewable energy.
Edison International also is the parent company
of Southern California Edison, the largest electric utility in
California.

Community Environmental Center Solar Thermal Installation at the JCC on Staten Island

Queens, NY – November 30, 2011—The 24-panel Solar Hot Water system now adorning the roof of the Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center on Staten Island, NY, was installed by Community Environmental Center (CEC) of Queens, announced CEC’s President, Richard Cherry. The SHW system, which was designed by Quixotic Systems Inc. of Manhattan, was unveiled on November 22.

“The JCC of Staten Island is a green, forward-looking organization,” said Cherry. “Using the sun to heat the water they use – 2,000 gallons a day, approximately – keeps down their use of fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gases, mitigating the climate crisis about which we are all very concerned.”

The SHW system uses 4’ x 10’ panels designed by Heliodyne™ of California, and the panels connect to a 1,500-gallon German-designed tank in the JCC’s basement. Community Environmental Center installed the system using the pre-existing bar joists that support the JCC’s spacious roof.

The new SHW system cost $ 170,000, of which $ 120,000 came from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and $ 50,000 from New York City’s Economic Development Corporation.

The JCC, which is equipped with an Olympic-size swimming pool as well as facilities for soccer, basketball and gymnastics, estimates that it has been spending roughly $ 5,500 each year to heat water for showers and washing machines, among other needs.  It is expected that the SHW system will save the JCC approximately $ 4,000 a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 27,500 pounds a year.

“Every SHW system is custom-designed and installed,” said CEC’s Solar Thermal Project Director, Sal Iacono, “because there are always variables in terms of hot-water usage, roof structure and available space. But the SHW system at the Staten Island JCC is a particularly fine example of how solar thermal can have a beneficial impact, reducing a nonprofit’s cost of heating water and improving the environment.”

The JCC is planning the installation of a $ 900,000 photovoltaic system in 2012, for which Quixotic Systems Inc. and Community Environmental Center will again collaborate.
