“I’m honored to represent California at such an important event,” said
Secretary Caballero. “This conference is fantastic opportunity to
bolster our cross-border relationship, and I look forward to
participating.”
The Border Governors Conference (BGC) is the largest bi-national venue
to discuss and resolve some of the most important border issues
impacting the United States and Mexico. It is comprised of the 10 Border
States from the United States and Mexico; together the group represents
a joint economy that ranks fourth among the economies of the world. The
conference was convened to focus on shared state government concerns
regarding the 1800 mile long border between the United States and Mexico
and the need to coordinate and work in partnership to solve issues.
The current BGC structure is comprised of 13 worktables: agriculture and
livestock, border security, economic development, education, energy,
emergency and civil protection, environment, health, logistics and
international crossing, science and technology, tourism, water and
wildlife. This conference will focus on safety, economic development and
border crossings.
The first Border Governors Conference was convened in Juarez, Chihuahua,
Mexico in 1980.
