Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D. Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, today (14 December, 2011) announced that he has given approval to Galway County Council’s Design Review proposals for the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kinvara in Co. Galway, together with the upgrade of the sewerage infrastructure in the area. This scheme will cost in the region of €5.2 million.
The Minister said, “I know how important this scheme is to the Galway area and I would like to see it progressing through to construction with the minimum of delay. My Department will be asking Galway County Council to advance the design, preparation of contract documents, on which bids will be invited for the construction of the scheme’’.
‘’Galway County Council may now proceed to prepare contract documents for this element of the scheme through to tender invitation, without further recourse to my Department, subject to the cost remaining within approved budgets’’.
‘’This contract is included in my Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012 as a contract to commence construction in that period’’, the Minister continued
The Minister also added that he would be asking the Council to conclude the preparation of contract documents and tender process, with a view to getting the construction underway as quickly as possible.
